In today’s e-commerce ecosystem, growth doesn’t just depend on better features, faster delivery, or sharper pricing, it depends on trust. Trust is what keeps customers coming back, drives repeat sales, and builds the reputation that attracts partners and investors.

In this talk, Agne Kaarlep (Tremau’s Managing Director and former European Commission policy officer) will show why trust is not just protection against fines, but the foundation for repeat sales, brand reputation, and long-term partnerships. Drawing on her experience shaping the EU’s Digital Services Act and advising platforms with tens of millions of users, Agne will unpack how safety acts as adoption fuel, since customers quickly abandon unsafe platforms but reward trusted ones with repeat business. She’ll also discuss why harm reduction should not be viewed as a compliance box to tick but as a growth metric in disguise—fewer scams lead to more trust, which increases retention and ultimately boosts revenue. The session will highlight what happens when safety is designed into products from the start, and why treating it as an afterthought creates liability instead of growth. Finally, Agne will share practical steps leaders can take to embed safety into product, operations, and governance so that it becomes a competitive moat.
